The Centre for International Affairs (CIA) hosted an event called International Day 2019 or iDay 2019 on Friday 27th September 2019, with almost 100 people participating in the event.
iDay 2019 was held to gather international students and staff of SUT together. One of the purposes of the event was for CIA to provide information about the services and issues that we faced with regards to internationalisation.
Another objective was to give an opportunity to the participants both Thai and foreign to raise problems that they had faced during their time at SUT.
The problems that were shared during iDay 2019 included:
1. Inadequate transportation
2. Lack of food choices
3. Expensive housing
4. Communication problems in documents, emails, lectures, labs (teaching media) and general information.
International and Thai students also requested for more activities that they could do together. Moreoever, the issue of research permit for researchers and postgraduate students was also raised and made awared by an international lecturer.
CIA also took this opportunity to present a certificate for students who volunteered for the Thai-Malaysia Annual University Games which took place in the beginning of this month. Moreover, the best Thai volunteer was also recognised and given an award by CIA for her services over the past year.
Overall, iDay2019 turned out to be a productive event and CIA will work as hard as they can to try to find a solution to the problems discussed.
