Asst. Prof. Dr. Waraporn Piyawit Earns Prestigious International Research Grant for Japan Project, October 14-25, 2025

Assistant Professor Dr. Waraporn Piyawit from the School of Metallurgical Engineering, Institute of Engineering, has been awarded the 2025 ICR International Collaborative Research Program grant from Kyoto University, Japan, to conduct advanced materials science research at the Institute for Chemical Research, Kyoto University Uji Campus, from October 14-24, 2025. This prestigious grant recognizes outstanding research potential and provides opportunities for international collaboration in cutting-edge materials science, strengthening academic partnerships between Thai and Japanese research institutions.

During the program, Asst. Prof. Dr. Waraporn Piyawit delivered an oral presentation on “TEM-EELS Insights into Phase Evolution and Strengthening Mechanisms in Al-Containing High-Entropy Alloys,” exploring strengthening mechanisms and phase evolution in aluminum-containing high-entropy alloys using advanced transmission electron microscopy techniques. Research activities utilized state-of-the-art scientific instruments, including Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM), High-Angle Annular Dark-Field Imaging (HAADF), and Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS), enabling atomic-level analysis of material microstructure and chemical composition.

This visit has strengthened academic collaboration between Suranaree University of Technology and Kyoto University, with both institutions establishing plans for continued joint research activities and preparing a collaborative research manuscript for publication in an international peer-reviewed journal. The findings will be incorporated into advanced materials science curriculum development and teaching at SUT, while opening opportunities for future researcher and student exchange programs that will enhance Thailand’s research capabilities in advanced materials science. This research visit was partially supported by the Center for International Affairs budget.
