
Delegates from the Embassy of Canada to Thailand, Mr. Frank Le, the Counsellor (Commercial) and Senior Trade Commissioner, and Ms. Nitchawan Sriviboone, Trade Commissioner, visited Suranaree University of Technology. The strategic meeting was convened to strengthen ongoing partnership and align strategic priortities in science, technology and innovations, and to follow up on SUT’s collaboration efforts with Canadian institutions and Quantum Technology Research Initiative Collaborations (QTRic) .

The discussion reflected strong mutual commitment to deepening international engagement, supported by high-level governmental interest and upcoming bilateral opportunities.
The session highlighted the evolving landscape of international education, where institutions have increasingly shifted beyond traditional exchange models toward integrated frameworks such as transnational and dual-degree programs, articulation pathways, and joint research initiatives. The Canadian delegation expressed openness to these approaches, recognizing their potential to enhance long-term academic and institutional collaboration.

The meeting presented a wide range of proposals across key disciplines, including engineering, digital sciences, biotechnology, and agricultural technology. These proposals emphasized collaborative research, student mobility, and co-development of academic programs. Notable initiatives included the development of project-based learning exchanges, joint supervision in digital and cybersecurity fields, and applied research in sustainable agriculture and food technology.

A significant focus was placed on SUT’s emerging quantum technology initiative, which aimed to position Thailand as a regional hub through the development of quantum applications and innovation ecosystems. The vision received strong support from Canadian representatives, who identified potential linkages with leading quantum research networks and industry partners.

Canadian delegates provided constructive feedback and outlined practical pathways for collaboration,
including connections to research funding bodies, commercialization programs, and institutional
partnerships. Opportunities such as the upcoming Global Research Council meeting and new postdoctoral
fellowship schemes were also identified as key platforms for further engagement.
The meeting concluded with a set of actionable steps for both parties, reinforcing a shared commitment to fostering sustainable partnerships, enhancing research collaboration, and promoting innovation across sectors.
