CIA News: A Productive Week at the ASEA-UNINET Plenary Meeting!

Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) actively participated in the recent 19th ASEA-UNINET Plenary Meeting held at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Penang from February 26th to March 1st, 2024.

The event provided a valuable platform for strengthening international collaboration, fostering knowledge exchange, and exploring new avenues for academic advancements.

Engaging Discussions and Collaboration

The event commenced with a warm welcome dinner and captivating cultural performances. Throughout the week, SUT representatives actively engaged in working group discussions on critical topics such as alumni engagement, diversifying funding for Southeast Asia-Europe academic partnerships, and the use of digital humanism in advancing artificial intelligence.

SUT Showcases Thailand’s ASEA-UNINET Activities

Dr. Mullika Sungsanit, SUT’s Vice Rector for Engagement, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship, and the ASEA-UNINET National Coordinator for Thailand, proudly presented an overview of Thailand Universities’ activities within the ASEA-UNINET network. They also participated in the ASEA-UNINET Bernd Rode Award Ceremony and witnessed elections for new members and executives.

Expanding the Network: Thai Universities Seek ASEA-UNINET Membership

Three Thai universities – Walailak University, Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology, and Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music – expressed interest in joining ASEA-UNINET. Additionally, Mae Fah Luang University’s petition for full membership was reviewed.

Beyond Discussions: A Rich Experience

The meeting wasn’t just about talks! SUT delegates embarked on a captivating USM campus tour, immersing themselves in the university’s beautiful scenery and rich history, and explored the historical and cultural treasures of Georgetown, Penang.

Overall, the 19th ASEA-UNINET Plenary Meeting presented a valuable platform for strengthening international collaboration, fostering knowledge exchange, and exploring new avenues for academic advancements. SUT looks forward to continued engagement with ASEA-UNINET and its esteemed members.
