Public Lecture by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Morocco to Thailand

On May 31, 2022 at 10.00 a.m. Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) hosted a public talk on “The Future is Renewable Energies: Morocco as a Leading Example in Africa” given by His Excellency Mr. Abderrahim Rahhaly, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Morocco to Thailand.

The one-hour talk was attended by 128 participants including His Excellency Mr. Moustapha El Kouny Ambassador of Republic Arab of Egypt to Thailand, His Excellency Mr. Kiptiness Lindsay Kimwole Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to Thailand, delegates of the embassies of African countries resident in Thailand and students of Suranaree University of Technology.

In alignment of SUT’s effort to promote the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, SDG 7 on Clean and Affordable Energy and SDG 13 on Climate Action, H.E. Mr. Abdurrahim has shared insights of Morocco’s success story as the top 5 in the world in the Performance Index of 2022 for climate action efforts by replacing 42% of the countries fossil fuel usage with investments in renewable energy including solar, wind and hydroelectric energy. The close interplay between the government, renewable energy organizations and the industrial sector along has enabled a rapid and steady growth of renewable energy in the country to curb climate change. His Excellency also underlined the importance of collaboration and co-creation of programs between the higher education and industry sectors to create the manpower for the future and looks forward to further collaboration with SUT to meet the demands of the renewable energy industry.

The public talk was organized by the Center of International Affairs to promote visibility, engagement and collaboration with foreign embassies as well as promote awareness of SDG 7 & SDG 13 among SUT community.
