Assoc.Prof.Dr.Weerapong Pairsuwan, Rector of SUT welcome delegates from Fuzhou University (FZU), led by Vice President Prof.Dr. Wang Jiang on Monday 30th April 2018.
SUT and FZU had an MOU signed in January this year with an aim to co-develop curricula to produce graduates for companies in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).
Since January, SUT, with CIA as the main coordinator, and FZU have worked closely with one another. The visit of FZU took place in order to advance the progress and collaboration. The results are as follows.
It has been finalised that the five double-degree curricula to be co-developed include (1) Electrical Engineering and automation, (2) Civil Engineering, (3) Logistics Engineering, (4) Logistics Management and (5) Computer Science and Technology.
These five curricula will be called “SUT’s Early Recruitment Programmes” which will be developed by SUT and FZU together with companies within the EEC, whose demands will be valueable to the curriculum development.
The programmes are known as “Early Recruitment” because students in these programmes will be equipped with necessary skills specific to the requirements of companies in the EEC. SUTand FZU are hopeful that they will all be employed by those companies once they graduate.
The plan is to have all the curricula developed and approved by the SUT Council by the end of December 2018 so that student recruitment can begin in January 2019.
This is the long-term goal.
Although the programmes will not be ready until the next academicyear, FZU has offered a chance for SUT students to study at FZU from September this year. Prof.Dr.Wang Jiang has kindly offered full scholarships, including tuition fee and accommodation, for those interested to spend their third and fourth years in China.
SUT will work with FZU on the detail of the scholarship so that it can be announced to the SUT community as soon as possible.
Furthermore, as a non-academic activity, a cultural exchange programme will take place at FZU from 5th to 9th July. Twenty-fiveSUT students have applied to join the programme.
It can be seen that with this collaboration, SUT are becoming more internationalised. Not only that, SUT has put a lot of emphasis on producing graduates to truly serve the demands of the industry as well. (Photo gallery)
