SUT Ranks Among Thailand’s Leading Universities by Subject Area In the World University Rankings THE World University Rankings 2026 by Subject

     Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) has been ranked among Thailand’s leading universities in the subject groups of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Engineering, and Social Sciences, according to the official announcement of the World University Rankings 2026 by subject by Times Higher Education (THE), United Kingdom, on January 21, 2026. This reflects the university’s continuous development in teaching, research potential, and international collaboration. In particular, the Physical Sciences group achieved the highest internationalization score in the country (ranked #1), while the Social Sciences group was ranked for the first time this year, demonstrating outstanding performance in industry income with the 4th highest score in Thailand. This reaffirms SUT’s role in advancing toward becoming a leading international research university and driving sustainable national development through science, technology, and innovation.

Physical Sciences  SUT is ranked 2nd among technology universities and tied for 3rd place in Thailand out of 19 ranked Thai universities, positioned in the 801-1,000 range globally among 1,497 universities worldwide. The overall score increased from last year, with improvements across all 5 indicators. Notably, the internationalization indicator scored 1st in Thailand, and the teaching indicator scored 2nd in the country, reflecting strengths in curriculum, teaching management, and international institutional collaboration networks.

Engineering  SUT is ranked 3rd among technology universities and tied for 9th place in Thailand out of 18 ranked Thai universities, positioned in the 1,001-1,250 range globally among 1,555 universities worldwide. The overall score shows an upward trend from last year, with improvements in 3 areas: research, research quality, and teaching. This reflects the development of in-depth research, integration of knowledge into teaching, and the production of engineering work that meets industrial needs.

Life Sciences  SUT is ranked 2nd among technology universities and 9th in Thailand out of 18 ranked Thai universities, positioned in the 801-1,000 range globally among 1,211 universities worldwide. The overall score increased from last year, with improvements in 4 areas: research, research quality, teaching, and internationalization.

Social Sciences  This year, SUT was ranked in the Social Sciences subject group for the first time, achieving 2nd place among technology universities and 7th in Thailand out of 14 ranked Thai universities, positioned in the 801-1,000 range globally among 1,202 universities worldwide. The industry income indicator scored 4th in Thailand, reflecting effective integration of social science knowledge with regional development, policy, and industry.

The ranking uses 5 main assessment criteria comprising 18 sub-indicators: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry Income, and International Outlook. This is an internationally recognized assessment framework. The ranking results for Thai universities are compared based on their global ranking groups.

SUT’s ranking results this year demonstrate upward trends in scores across multiple subject groups, with clearly improved performance in various indicators.
