SUT Faculty Member Collaborates with Hirosaki University on Smart Insole Research for Physiotherapy, April 14-27, 2025

Associate Professor Soodkhet Pojprapai from Suranaree University of Technology traveled to Hirosaki University, Japan, from April 14 to 27, 2025, where he collaborated with Dr. Takaaki Ishikawa from the Graduate School of Health Sciences on the project “Investigation of the Improvement of Physiotherapy Interventions in Ankle Sprain Patients Using Smart Insoles with AI as a Portable Gait Analysis System.” The research visit, which took place during Hirosaki’s renowned cherry blossom season, yielded fruitful results and laid the groundwork for continued collaboration between the two institutions. This visit was supported by the CIA Co-Matching External Funds Program, and Associate Professor Soodkhet expressed his gratitude to the Center for International Affairs and Suranaree University of Technology for their financial support.

The collaborative research focuses on developing innovative physiotherapy interventions using smart insole technology integrated with artificial intelligence for gait analysis in ankle sprain patients. Both universities will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in November 2025 to formalize their collaboration, with the partnership aiming to advance the use of smart insole and AI technologies in physiotherapy and healthcare. The visit provided Associate Professor Soodkhet with opportunities to exchange knowledge, conduct joint research activities, and experience Japanese culture and hospitality, with Hirosaki Castle and Hirosaki Park surrounded by sakura trees in full bloom creating a uniquely memorable backdrop for the academic collaboration. This partnership represents SUT’s commitment to fostering international research collaborations that contribute to advancements in healthcare technology and improved patient outcomes.
