Associate Professor Dr. Anan Thongra-ar, Rector of Suranaree University of Technology (SUT), along with Dr. Mullika Sungsanit, Vice Rector for Engagement, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship, SUT executives from various institutes, Technopolis, the Center for International Affairs (CIA), and the Plant Genetic Conservation Project under the Royal Initiative (RSPG-SUT), faculty members who are alumni of Canadian universities, recipients of Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) grants, and co-op students from the University of Waterloo currently placed at RSPG-SUT, jointly welcomed H.E. Ms. Ping Kitnikone, Ambassador of Canada to Thailand, and her delegation during their visit to SUT on June 9, 2025.
The purpose of the visit was to exchange dialogues on Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy and the alignment with how SUT, as a regional university, has contributed to promoting and fostering sustainable community development. The meeting was held at the Co-working Space in Technopolis, SUT.
Over the years, SUT has worked in partnership with the Embassy of Canada, Khao Yai National Park, and the Klong Plakang community, supported by CFLI funding, to establish and launch the first eco-educational forest trail in Wang Nam Khiao District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, which commemorated the 60th Anniversary of Thai–Canadian Diplomatic Relations in July 2023. The trail promotes learning about local plant species and wildlife, with active community involvement in its management—contributing to the sustainable development of eco-tourism in the region.
Currently, SUT and the Embassy of Canada are preparing to launch the latest CFLI-supported project, which focuses on training nature trail guides and interpreters for the Klong Plakang Thailand–Canada Friendship Trail. The official handover of this new program is scheduled to take place tomorrow.
In addition, this year marks the 5th year of cooperation between SUT, Khao Yai National Park, and the Embassy of Canada — a partnership that began in 2020 with the development of a “Waste Collection and Management Facility” at Khao Yai National Park, also supported by CFLI funding. Photo Album
มทส. ต้อนรับและหารือความร่วมมือกับเอกอัครราชทูตแคนาดา ประจำประเทศไทย
รองศาสตราจารย์ ดร.อนันต์ ทองระอา อธิการบดีมหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีสุรนารี (มทส.) อาจารย์ ดร.มัลลิกา สังข์สนิท รองอธิการบดีฝ่ายพันธกิจสัมพันธ์ นวัตกรรม และความเป็นผู้ประกอบการ พร้อมด้วยคณะผู้บริหารจากสำนักวิชา เทคโนธานี ศูนย์กิจการนานาชาติ และ ศูนย์อนุรักษ์พันธุกรรมพืชอันเนื่องมาจากพระราชดำริฯ (อพ.สธ.-มทส.) คณาจารย์ ศิษย์เก่าจากมหาวิทยาลัยในแคนาดา คณาจารย์ที่เคยได้รับทุนโครงการ Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI ) รวมทั้งนักศึกษาจาก Waterloo University ที่ปฏิบัติงานสหกิจศึกษา ณ อพ.สธ.-มทส. ร่วมให้การต้อนรับ H.E. Ms. Ping Kitnikone เอกอัครราชทูตแคนาดา ประจำประเทศไทย และคณะ ในโอกาสเดินทางมาเยือน มทส. เพื่อหารือ และแลกเปลี่ยนข้อมูลเชิงลึกเกี่ยวกับ มทส. ในฐานะมหาวิทยาลัยระดับภูมิภาคได้เข้าไปมีส่วนร่วมในการสนับสนุนและพัฒนาชุมชนอย่างยั่งยืน ซึ่งสอดคล้องกับนโยบายสนับสนุนอินโด-แปซิฟิกของแคนาดา เมื่อวันที่ 9 มิถุนายน 2568 ณ Co-working Space เทคโนธานี มหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีสุรนารี
ทั้งนี้ที่ผ่านมา มทส. ได้ร่วมกับ สถานทูตแคนาดา อุทยานแห่งชาติเขาใหญ่ และชุมชนคลองปลากั้ง ผ่านการสนับสนุนทุน CFLI เพื่อพัฒนาและเปิดเส้นทางเดินป่าศึกษาธรรมชาติเชิงนิเวศแห่งแรกของ อ.วังน้ำเขียว จ.นครราชสีมา ฉลองความสัมพันธ์ทางการทูต 60 ปีไทย – แคนาดา เมื่อเดือนกรกฎาคม พ.ศ. 2566 เพื่อส่งเสริมการเรียนรู้เส้นทางธรรมชาติ ข้อมูลพืชพันธุ์ไม้และสัตว์ป่า โดยให้ชุมชนเข้ามามีส่วนร่วมบริหารจัดการ อันนำไปสู่การพัฒนาการท่องเที่ยวเชิงนิเวศอย่างยั่งยืน ทั้งนี้ โครงการ CLFI ล่าสุด มทส และสถานฑูตแคนาดา กำลังจะส่งมอบโครงการอบรมมัคคุเทศก์และวิทยากรเส้นทางธรรมชาติอย่างยั่งยืน ณ เทรลคลองปลากั้ง มิตรภาพไทย-แคนาดา ในวันพรุ่งนี้
นอกจากนี้ ปีนี้ยังเป็นปีที่ 5 ของความร่วมมือระหว่าง มทส อุทยานแห่งชาติเขาใหญ่ และ สถานฑูตแคนาดา นับตั้งแต่การดำเนินการพัฒนา “โรงเรือนพักขยะ” ภายใต้การสนับสนุนงบประมาณจาก CFLI ให้แก่อุทยานแห่งชาติเขาใหญ่ ซึ่งริเริ่มเมื่อปี 2563 อีกด้วย
